Chamber of Commerce Presents 2004 Paul Goodloe McIntire Citizenship Award to Marshall Pryor at Annual Chamber Dinner
(Charlottesville, Virginia - November 30) The Charlottesville Regional Chamber of Commerce this evening presented its prestigious Paul Goodloe McIntire Citizenship Award to E. Marshall Pryor, III before an audience of 400 business and community leaders attending the 2004 Annual Chamber of Commerce Dinner held at the Charlottesville Omni Hotel.
Mr. Pryor, a native of Charlottesville, is Vice President of Albemarle First Bank. He attended Charlottesville City Schools, graduating from Lane High School. Before his tenure with the bank, Mr. Pryor was Partner and General Manger of the Young Men's Shop for 38 years (1964-2002). Mr. Pryor and his wife Nancy live in Keene. They have a son Edward. The Pryors are members of St. Anne's Parish in Scottsville.
"Marshall Pryor's service to our community is unbelievably far-reaching and lasting," said Gary Taylor, Regional Executive of Northwestern Mutual Financial Network, Past Chairman of the Chamber Board of Directors and Chairman of the Chamber Paul Goodloe McIntire Citizenship Award Committee. "He has been blessed with very broad shoulders and they are shoulders that, together with his boundless energy, carry a huge load of civic involvement, service and dedication. Today and for more than 40 years, Marshall has sought out ways to build our community and then sustain the effort towards success. Once again our Chamber Paul Goodloe McIntire Citizenship Award recipient serves as a model for all citizens to emulate."
Mr. Pryor's community involvement is extensive. He is active in numerous community philanthropic and civic initiatives. His service includes the United Way - Thomas Jefferson Area, the Charlottesville Area Community Foundation, 20th Century Merchants Foundation, the American Red Cross, the Salvation Army, Region Ten Capitol Campaign Fund, Bloomfield Home, the Committee for Darden Towe Memorial Park, the Charlottesville Albemarle Rescue Squad, Seminole Trail Volunteer Fire Department, the Dogwood Festival, Central Little League and more.
Mr. Pryor's professional involvement is also extensive. His involvement with the Jaycees includes service locally and as Vice president of the Virginia Jaycees. He has been involved with the Retail Merchants Association, Charlottesville Downtown Foundation, Downtown Charlottesville, Inc. and the Virginia Economic Development Corporation. At the Young Men's Shop and with Albemarle First Bank he is an active member of the Charlottesville Regional Chamber, including service on the Chamber Board of Directors (1972-73 and 1989-92).
Throughout all this time Mr. Pryor has remained an active and regularly attending member of the Blue Ridge Mountains Rotary.
The Chamber of Commerce established its prestigious Paul Goodloe McIntire Citizenship Award in 1975 to recognize outstanding citizen contributions to the greater Charlottesville area. The Chamber award is named in honor of Paul Goodloe McIntire, whose good will set a standard of service that others through the years have reached for while helping to weave a fabric of selflessness that continues to provide for our community and its citizens. The 2004 Chamber Paul Goodloe McIntire Citizenship Award Selection Committee included: Mr. Taylor as Chairman; Ivo Romenesko, President of The Appraisal Group the 2004 Chamber Board Chairman; Mark Nelson, Esq. of Richmond & Fishburne and Chamber Board Chairman - Elect; Olivia Branch of WMRA/National Public Radio; Suzanne Jessup Brooks, Vice President of Pepsi Cola Bottling Company of Central Virginia, a 1994 Chamber McIntire Award recipient; Charlottesville Mayor David Brown; Bill Howard, Real Estate III Commercial Properties, the 2002 Chamber's McIntire Award; Leonard Sandridge, Executive Vice President of the University of Virginia and 2003 Chamber McIntire Award recipient; Cathy Smith Train, President of the United Way - Thomas Jefferson Area; and, Chamber President Timothy Hulbert.
The Annual Chamber Dinner, co-sponsored this year by State Farm Insurance Companies, Hantzmon Wiebel & Company and SPRINT, was attended by 400 people. Just prior to the award presentation, Knight Kiplinger, the renowned economist, financial journalist and author delivered the dinner's keynote address.
