VIRGINIA’S LEWIS & CLARK: ROOTS OF A LEGACY and FOR THE RECORD’s 10th SEASON CELEBRATION, both produced by WHTJ Charlottesville PBS, have been chosen for national distribution by American Public Television (APT), the largest ancillary distributor of public television programming in the United States.

Programmers at public television stations in 70 communities across the country selected VIRGINIA’S LEWIS & CLARK: ROOTS OF A LEGACY for broadcast including Los Angeles; Atlanta, Ga.; Denver, Colo.; and Tampa, Fla. At least twenty-five communities have chosen to carry FOR THE RECORD’s 10th SEASON CELEBRATION including Tampa, Fla.; Memphis, Tenn.; Sacramento, Calif; and Albuquerque, N.M.

Kluge Estate Winery and Vineyard announced today that it has been awarded a Double Gold Medal for the Kluge Estate 2001 New World Red and a Bronze Medal for the Kluge Estate SP 2001 in the just-concluded 28th International Eastern Wine Competition.

The International Eastern Wine Competition is sponsored by Vineyard & Winery Management magazine and is held in Santa Rosa, California and Watkins Glen, New York. There were 2,316 entries in the competition this year, representing 34 states, four provinces of Canada, and 16 countries. This year, 52 double gold medals were awarded, with 86 gold, 550 silver, and 823 bronze medals.

Members of the Association for Investment Management and Research have voted to simplify the organization's name to CFA Institute, the non-profit group announced Monday, May 10.

The group, which administers the Chartered Financial Analyst examination and designation worldwide, said a resolution to change its name was approved Sunday night by more than 86% of the membership that voted. The vote was tallied at the group's annual meeting in Denver and the name change takes effect immediately. [From the Wall Street Journal]

The WINA News & Sports Departments captured more honors this weekend from the Virginia Associated Press Broadcasters' Association. WINA received the Douglas Southall Freeman Award for Public Service through Radio Journalism. WINA was also honored for having the best web site [with a new, fresh look just this week!], and the best year-round sports coverage.

Bruce Sanborn was honored for the best investigative reporting, and Chris Callahan was recognized for the Outstanding Effort by Individual Reporter. WWWV received an award for the Best Editorial, and WINA was also recognized in the Documentary and Feature or Human Interest Categories. All of these entries are in the non-metro category. WINA & WWWV picked up these awards during the annual Associated Press Broadcasters' convention in Virginia Beach.
