Second Bank & Trust held a ribbon cutting on Friday, June 30 to open a new, full-service bank on 1330 Parham Circle at the corner of Avon Street Extended and Mill Creek Drive.
The Mill Creek Branch offers full-service banking in the form of checking, savings, certificates of deposit, money market accounts and IRAs. They also offer ancillary services such as internet banking, bill payment, Visa Check Cards and credit cards. To further complement their offerings, the Mill Creek Branch will offer mortgage loans, auto and consumer loans. Trust and investment products will be offered in conjunction with Virginia Commonwealth Trust Company, an affiliate of Second Bank & Trust. A wide array of business products and services is available as well. The Mill Creek branch has a 24-hour ATM, safe deposit boxes and night drop services. Extended drive through hours Monday through Friday, 7:00 am until 6:00 pm and Saturday, 8:00 am until 12:00 pm offer greater convenience.
Jordan Roelofs, a resident of Charlottesville and a University of Virginia graduate with a degree in Economics, will lead the Mill Creek team as Branch Manager.

The wine making program offered by Piedmont Virginia Community College and its advisory council have received awards for Excellence in Career and Technical Education from the Virginia Department of Education.
The annual awards recognize projects that promote excellence in career and technical education, as well as the efforts of educators to provide exceptional instruction and positive outcomes for students.
The viticulture (growing grapes) and enology (producing wine) program at PVCC was created in partnership with Monticello Wine Trail vineyard owners and mangers who were seeking qualified employees. The program includes courses on growing grapes and managing the vineyard, as well as courses in wine making, wine tasting, and marketing strategies.

Birch Studio Graphics has announced it's move to a new location at 619 East High Street. Birch Studio bought the office condo several months ago, after outgrowing their old location, and adding 2 more designers. The new location has more room for expansion, is is more centrally located and convenient to the Downtown business district. Birch Studio specializes in branding and applied print, web and information design.

Diffusion Pharmaceuticals LLC, a drug discovery and development company in Charlottesville, VA, recently announced that VaBIO, a membership organization that promotes the scientific and economic impact of the life sciences industry in the Commonwealth of Virginia, awarded it for the third year a $1,500 grant as part of the organization’s Summer Internship Grant Initiative. This grant will help fund research performed by Matthew “Matt” Manganiello, a summer associate with Diffusion. Matt is currently a rising fourth year student at the University of Virginia’s School of Engineering and Applied Science where he is pursing a major in Chemical Engineering with a concentration in biotechnology and bioengineering. Over the summer, Matt will carry on work performed by the Company’s 2005 Summer Associate, Matt Geary. His work will consist of hands-on analytical procedures, including laser techniques for in-vitro evaluation, in Diffusion Pharmaceuticals’ internal laboratories, which will assist the Company in the development of its pipeline of proprietary analog molecules.

FOCUS Women’s Resource Center has moved from their Grady Avenue location to the New Ix Project (formally the Frank Ix & Son’s Textile Mill) into a space custom designed to better serve their clients and accommodate plans for future expansion. An oversized conference room was included in the plans for workshops, meetings and discussion groups and also with the intention of offering rental space to the public. The customized facility is handicap accessible and is conveniently located to public transportation and major roadways. The new address for FOCUS is 953 second Street S.E., Charlottesville for those interested in utilizing the services, in becoming a member or just visiting. FOCUS Women’s Resource Center is a non-profit organization in Charlottesville, VA providing affordable or free programs and services to women and their families through mental health counseling, career development and teen programs for at risk youth.
