The Service Corps of
Retired Executives (SCORE) provides free counseling to
people who have an interest in starting a business, or
in preserving and ensuring the sustainability of an
existing business in a very dynamic and high-tech
changing climate. The 25 members of the organization
offer entrepreneurial expertise and resources gained
from long-term career experiences and are committed to
serving the Charlottesville region.
SCORE is housed at the
Small Business Development Center and operates with the
support and assistance of the Chamber of Commerce, PVCC,
UVA, and the U.S. Small Business Administration. Call

one of the numerous business seminars and conferences
being held in the community.

Thomas
Jefferson Partnership for Economic Development
(TJPED)

Formed in 1995 as a
partnership of the Chamber, the Thomas Jefferson
Partnership for Economic Development (TJPED) is a
public-private, non-profit corporation that promotes
business opportunities throughout the Greater
Charlottesville region. Members of the Partnership
include private sector businesses, the City of
Charlottesville, the counties of Fluvanna, Louisa,
Nelson, Orange, the University of Virginia, Piedmont
Virginia Community College, and the Thomas Jefferson
Planning District Commission.
The mission of the
Partnership is to promote new investment and career
ladder job creation to enhance economic opportunities
for businesses and residents, as well as help public
sector members of the Partnership achieve their
individual jurisdiction's economic development
objectives in the context of the regional economy.

Charlottesville-Albemarle
Convention & Visitors Bureau (CACVB)

Director
Founded in 1984, the Charlottesville-Albemarle Convention & Visitors
Bureau (CACVB) seeks to maximize the economic benefits of tourism through
promotion of the area’s assets to meeting planners, group tour operators
and leisure travelers and also manages two visitor information centers. The
CACVB is located on the East end of the Downtown Mall and operates a Visitor
Center on Route 20 South in the Monticello Visitors Center building.
The
CACVB originally received funding and support from the Chamber of Commerce.
It is now funded by the City of Charlottesville, the County of Albemarle and
private co-operative dollars. CACVB funds are used to directly attract
conference, tour and leisure business. The CACVB also supports local events,
attractions, restaurants and other organizations through web site exposure,
cooperative marketing efforts, visitor centers, direct mail and trade shows.

Free Enterprise Forum

Launched in 1998, the
Free Enterprise Forum, formerly the Charlottesville Area Legislative Action Coalition (CALAC), is a coalition of the Charlottesville Regional Chamber
of Commerce, the Blue Ridge Home Builders Association,
the Charlottesville Area Association of Realtors, and area businesses.
the Free Enterprise Forum is organized to provide business leadership and to
enhance the business climate in Charlottesville and the
surrounding region by maximizing our effectiveness in
monitoring and proactively influencing local legislation
and other government actions in a way that benefits our
members and the regional economy.
Research is conducted on a variety of immediate and
long-term issues and prioritized based on each issue's
impact on the business community. An active volunteer
network from the three founding partners has proved to
be critical for the
Free Enterprise Forum's success.
