Charlottesville is home to two hospitals and several clinics dedicated to serving a community with a wide range of medical needs. 

The University of Virginia Health Sciences Center is consistently ranked among the country's top teaching facilities and provides some of the best medical facilities and practitioners in the nation. The center provides a medical library open to the public and a level one trauma center. Specialist centers address children's health, women's health, cancer treatment, coronary disease, neurosciences, and digestive diseases. 
The second hospital in the region is Martha Jefferson Hospital, which is a non-profit community hospital with 200 beds. The hospital's most-noted services include a Cancer Care Center, the Women's Health Center, the Endoscopy Center, and other out-patient services. 
Local residents can also find emotional support programs for terminally ill patients and their families.
