On Friday, October 10, 2025, the Charlottesville business community gathered at the Doubletree Hotel for an unforgettable evening celebrating leadership, legacy, and the bright future of minority entrepreneurship. The Minority Business Alliance's 2025 gala, themed The Year of the Sunset, honored three remarkable leaders whose dedication has transformed the local business landscape.

Celebrating a Powerful Transition

This year's theme carried deep significance—marking the sunset on years of extraordinary leadership from Quinton Harrell, Kaye Monroe, and Alexander Urpí, while welcoming a new dawn of emerging minority business leaders in the Charlottesville region.

Against the elegant backdrop of all-black formal attire, guests witnessed a celebration that was equal parts gratitude, inspiration, and hope for the future.

Meet the 2025 Honorees

Quinton Harrell, Founder, Heritage United Builders

Quinton Harrell's impact on Charlottesville extends far beyond the buildings he's constructed. As founder of Heritage United Builders and co-founder of New Hill Development Corporation, Quinton has dedicated his career to Black wealth-building and economic empowerment.

Serving as chair of the Chamber's Minority Business Alliance, he's been instrumental in creating pathways for minority entrepreneurs to thrive. His latest venture—reviving Bone Doctors' Barbecue Sauces—demonstrates his commitment to preserving Black culinary heritage while building sustainable businesses.

Kaye Monroe, Founder, KDM Coaching & Associates

Kaye Monroe has made leadership development her life's work. As founder and principal consultant of KDM Coaching & Associates, she guides leaders and organizations through transformative workforce development and authentic engagement strategies.

Her role as Executive Vice Chair of the Chamber's Minority Business Alliance and her leadership of the Women's Dream Builders academy have directly impacted countless aspiring entrepreneurs, particularly women seeking to turn their business dreams into reality.

Alexander Urpi, CEO, Emergent Financial Services

Alex Urpí understands that financial empowerment is the foundation of thriving communities. As CEO of Emergent Financial Services and Vice-Chair of Finance for the Chamber's Minority Business Alliance, he's dedicated to helping families and small businesses achieve their financial goals.

His service on multiple local boards reflects his deep commitment to building stronger communities through strategic finance, dedicated service, and meaningful mentorship.

The 2025 J.F. Bell Sr. Vanguard Award

The evening also celebrated Janasha "Jay" Bradford, recipient of the prestigious J.F. Bell Sr. Vanguard Award. Jay's work embodies the forward-thinking spirit the award represents.

As an award-winning author, licensed financial advisor, and Financial Empowerment Manager at United Way, Jay is changing the financial literacy landscape for the next generation. Through her company, Mahogany and Friends: The Tiny Investor Club, she's making smart money habits accessible and engaging for children and families.

The Mahogany and Friends Foundation extends this mission into underserved communities through free workshops, school programs, and family coaching—ensuring that financial education reaches those who need it most.
