What does your organization do?
Pete's Pick-Up is an affordable junk removal service that reuses and recycles bulk household items such as mattresses and furniture. If the items are reusable, they go into our furniture bank and back out to the community to help people in need; if they are not reusable, they are taken to van der Linde Recycling.
What's the most important thing you want people to know about your organization?
The most important thing to know about our organization is that we help you get rid of items you no longer want, we reuse and recycle everything we can, and we help people in need. You see junk, we see possibility.
Tell us about something new and exciting your organization is doing.
We are an integral part of a mattress recycling program. The mattresses we receive that cannot be reused by our furniture bank go to our affiliate, van der Linde Recycling. This mattress recycling program helps divert mattresses away from landfills and salvages reusable materials. We are proud to share their commitment to material diversion and recovery.
Tell us about one of your recent success stories.
We frequently help supply mattresses and furniture to those in need, but at the end of June this year, there was a particular crisis situation that captured our hearts. A woman lost her life in a tragic domestic violence situation, leaving her five children behind to be cared for by her sister. They needed everything; beds, dressers, desks - and we were able to provide all of those things and more! Our CEO put the word out and people really came through, providing new towels & bedding, clothes, games, and even cash to help this family. It feels truly amazing to be a part of something that makes a real difference in people's lives.

We provide a junk pick-up service, at a competitive price, which funds our furniture bank.
What makes your organization stand out?
At Pete's Pick-Up, we redefine junk removal. We're not just a service; we're a mission-driven endeavor that offers affordable pick-up with a profound purpose. With us, it's not just about clearing clutter—it's about cherishing our planet and uplifting our community. We work everyday to make a difference. You see junk, we see possibility!
What accomplishments are you most proud of?
Since our official launch in March, more than 550 pieces of furniture have been diverted from landfills and added to our furniture bank.
What else do you want us to know?
Pete’s is partnered with 20 local non-profit organizations, including Social Services, PACEM, MACAA, the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, and more. When these organizations come across community members with a verified need, they provide them with a voucher to receive furniture from our furniture bank.
What Chamber benefits do you appreciate as a member?
The Chamber has uplifted and supported our new and growing business in invaluable ways. Our chamber ribbon cutting made the local news and the connections we have made with other local businesses in just a few short months have elevated Pete’s Pick-Up as a mission worthy endeavor. We value the chamber immensely. Time and money well spent.
Would you recommend Chamber membership to others?
We would definitely recommend membership with the Charlottesville Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber is excellent for networking, creating community visibility, and for gaining valuable knowledge related to business development and personal growth.
